What’s new!
This release of the Scarborough High website is undoubtedly the biggest change since the inception of the website in 2002. For the first time the site has been built on a proper content management system. All the previous sites were based on forum systems; this had two inherent problems.
- It required a lot of modification to the code to make it work, which caused problems maintaining the site.
- It was difficult to add other content to the site because it was after all essentially a forum.
In total 3 lines of code were modified for the new site and that was to move the site logo. Everything else has been achieved using modules. This modular approach should make life easier to maintain the site and make it more stable.
The site is now hosted on a professional service which will make it more stable and stop me from messing with the underlying systems which is what caused the site to crash last time.
Now the bad news!!
- Because the new and old systems are so different it was impossible to import the accounts from the old system. Therefore you’ll need to create a new account.
- You’ll need to create a separate username for the forum, if you can remember your account details from the previous site it will still work in the forum.
- Most of the information people sent in over the years has been lost. If you have any information such as year book etc that you are willing to share please contact me.
- The photo gallery was damaged. All the photos were renumbered 1 to 300. If anyone can put a name, place or year to the photos it would be really appreciated.
What’s left to do?
Here is the immediate list of things that still need to be completed.
- The 1985 yearbook to be added
- The Scarborough High book from the final open day to be added
- Games arcade to be added (low priority)
- Awaiting a new membership module to be completed.
I am not completely happy with the forum and its integration but in keeping with my modular approach and not wanting to modify code this part of the site will remain as is until further updates are available which will accommodate my needs.
Finally, Help!
